Getting from Point A to Point B in Cat Behavior
Who adopts whom? Or rather shall I ask who adapts to whom? Cat behaviors imply that they may feel superior compared to any creature made- including their so called "owners". So here's the thing, where's the disparity between having a cat and having a cat own you?
To avoid wrong supremacy, it is wise for the owner to learn to interpret the vocalizations and body language of the cat early on in the relationship. These include odd mood changes from lazy, happiness, to stalking, pouncing and conquering to the nipping, tail switching, and hissing tangle of fur that warns others to stay away.
Successful communication is essential in order for human and cats to co- exists peacefully. When humans do not succeed in understanding their pet, the cat suffers. This results in cats found in streets while some are lucky enough to end in animal shelters.
The most annoying thing that most or maybe all cats do is to scratch. This is their way of stretching and marking their territory though. Put plenty of scratching post for your cats to prevent them from scratching on things you do not want to be damaged and for them to be professionally trained where to scratch.
Owners should be aware of signs which imply that a cat is being irritated. Some of these are tail twitching, ears back, hair raised and sudden stoppage of purring. All of these are caused when cats dislike the manner of petting them and wants human to simply stop what he is doing.
If humans are oblivious of these behaviors, cats tend to grab attention by nipping at the ankles or even at the neck area. Nipping is not just their plain way of being mean to humans.
Cats also have this instinct to pounce on their preys- that could either be a toy, a food or even you. Be alert when your cat is ready to jump because its prey could be you. This is just their playful aggression for us but for them this is a way of detecting the body pressure of the "hunt". This could be avoided by tossing a cat toy in other direction or by distracting the cat.
To avoid cat digging, use unpleasant smells such as citrus products that can be sprayed to dampen your kitten's way of enjoying its passion.
As an owner, it is important to study and understand cats' way of living to manipulate your pet because if not, this would lead to you being the one manipulated.
